The Advantages of a Standby Home Generator

Unlike a portable generator that you have to set up and start manually, a standby generator is automatic, permanently installed outside your home and connected directly to your electrical system.

Here’s what happens when the power goes out:

1. Automatic detection: The generator’s transfer switch constantly monitors the utility power.
2. Instant activation: Within seconds of detecting an outage, the transfer switch disconnects your home from the grid and starts the generator.
3. Power restored: The generator begins supplying electricity directly to your home’s electrical panel, restoring power to your essential circuits, or even to your entire house, depending on the model.
4. Seamless transition: Once utility power is restored, the system automatically switches back and shuts down the generator.

Your lights, refrigerator, heating system and other essential appliances will keep running without interruption. And all this happens whether or not you’re home when the power goes out.
