Frequently Asked Budget Questions

Answer
Your estimated usage (based on a three-year average of gallons) is multiplied by the price per gallon and divided into equal monthly payments. If you choose to CAP your gallons, that fee is also worked into the monthly figure, as well as your service plan if applicable.

Answer
Your signed and initialed contract is due back within five days of receipt. First payment is due when the contract is sent back.

Answer
Payments are due by the 15th of each month.

Answer
Yes, there is a minimum of 400 gallons required.

Answer
If you miss more than two payments, your budget is subject to going on a “Credit Hold.” We reserve the right to terminate the Budget Contract.

Answer
All products (heating oil, kerosene, or propane) can be included, as well as a service plan if applicable.
Service work above and beyond the contract must be paid separately, as well as gallons not included in the Budgeted Gallons reflected in the contract.

Answer
This fee allows us to purchase gallons in advance for you and lets you follow the price down, should it drop with the market.

Answer
Your pricing will revert to the original price structure on your account. Keep in mind — if your gallons run out in March, you still have payments on your budget until May. Please work with your R. H. Foster Representative to determine the best gallon count for your heating season.

Answer
We pay 2.5% interest on credit balances up to the total amount of the budget.

Answer
We will work with you to find a payment you can afford that also covers the gallons needed to get through the heating season. Having a low payment but running out of gallons in February doesn’t help. You would need to purchase additional gallons outside the budget while still making your remaining monthly payments.

Answer
Your credit balance or amount owed (up to $400) will be rolled into your budget and factored into monthly payments. A credit balance means lower monthly payments; an outstanding balance means a higher payment. We always recommend paying off any balance at the start of the budget season to keep your payment as low as possible.

A — Cash Budget
We can adjust your gallon usage and payment as needed. For example, if it’s a warm winter and usage is lower than projected, we may lower your payment during our January review. Conversely, if it’s a colder-than-average winter, we can adjust the payment and gallons upward.
B — Fixed Price Contract
If you have a fixed price on a set number of gallons and don’t use them all, our management team will review the situation and determine next steps. All fixed-price contracts include liquidated damages. When you fix a price on a set number of gallons, those gallons are secured. You own them, and we just need to deliver them.

Answer
We typically run budgets from June to May, rolling out in June with the first payment due in July. However, we want to be flexible. If that timeline doesn’t work for you, call your local office and we’ll do our best to accommodate.
