Do you smell propane?

  • The first indication that there may be a problem, is the smell of rotten egg or sewage-type smell. Depending on the strength of this smell, it may indicate the severity of the leak.

    • If a leak is suspected, notify all tenants or occupants of the building and evacuate them.

  • Call one of our branches and/or 911 for immediate assistance.

  • Extinguish all open flames, including cigarettes.

Is the smell inside the building?

  • Open a window or door, if able

  • Do NOT use the following until permitted by the fire dept. or service technician.

    • Cell phones

    • Electrical switches to turn off or on lights/devices/appliances. This includes light switches, circuit boards, etc.

    • Re-enter a building suspected of having a leak.

    • Use matches or lighters.

  • Go outside

  • Turn off Propane tank(s) (turn the valve clockwise (to the right)

  • DO NOT RE-ENTER THE BUILDING

Is the smell outside of the building?

  • Turn off the propane tank(s) (turn the valve clockwise (to the right)
